Being mobile suggests a certain freedom. The freedom a tied up person may envy a vagabond. A freedom which doesn’t necessarily need to be experienced as positive by someone forced into it. Let’s call it a romantic vision of creative possibilities. Creative in the sense of continuously being proposed new conditions. It suggests taking the work places in order to be disturbed, shaken, awakened, questioned, confronted with prejudices, and informed about what is happening in the world. Letting oneself be challenged physically and intellectually. Learning through experience. As John Dewey has put it: a true work of art is a refined and intensified form of experience (Art as experience, 1934).
